Great May 22, 2009 Dan Wolfe (San Francisco, CA USA) 54 out of 57 found this review helpful
just made a quick call to comcast to give them the modem's MAC address and now my internet is blazing. I'm on the comcast 22Mb download tier but speed test is showing an average of 35Mb down / 6Mb up. really fast.
Easy setup, great so far! June 10, 2009 Scott L. Elliott 42 out of 46 found this review helpful
I had the older SB5120 and lately I have had to restart the router about 2 times a weeks when I was using massive bandwidth.
The new modem works great with my Comcast service here in Olympia, WA. Took 5 min on the phone for the Comcast Tech to authenticate the new router.
PERFECTION, for Docsis 3.0 Installations October 24, 2009 Tarun Chachra (Hillsborough, NJ) 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
I was renting a modem from Comcast for $4 per month which really was horrible. The modem would crash, reboot, not work, etc... I spoke to some Comcast tech's on Twitter and they recommended I go and buy this modem since it was not yet being distributed by them in my area. Voila, off to Amazon I went.
I purchased the modem, it arrived the next day. I turned everything off....router, computer, etc. The setup was as follows:
A. Plug cable into new modem.
B. Plug ethernet cable from modem to your computer (first time only).
C. Power up modem.
D. Power up computer.
E. For Comcast - Web page comes up that allows you to change your modem.
F. Enter some details....ie. your account number, etc.
G. DONE....shutdown modem, and plug ethernet cable to Router.
H. Enjoy DOCSIS 3.0
I have had this thing for a few weeks now and it works perfectly well on a daily basis. We are actually getting what we pay for...which was not the case with the old junk that comcast provided. We are getting about 60mbps down and 12mbps up...on a good day.
Motorola has an excellent modem again..
Fast... and works with D-Link DIR 655! July 20, 2009 Amazon lover (Portland, OR) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
I read the reviews here and elsewhere and decided to try the combination of this Motorola SB6120 and the D-Link DIR 655. First, comparing the Motorola SB6120 with the Motorola SBG900 on Comcast. The highest speed I could get on the SBG900 was 14mb/s. Note that was on a 20mb/s subscription. The higher subscription is not valuable without a DOCSIS 3.0 modem, I learned. So I returned the SBG900, and got this combo. Now I'm getting an average of 21mb/s both with and without the D-Link DIR 655. The D-Link has slowed down my upload time by 0.2mb/s but that's it. Certainly not something I care about! This is an outstanding modem, even on the slowest Comcast speed. I've downgraded to my ISP's slowest speed now because the difference is too small for it to matter to me. Going from 16 to 20 subscription had me go from 21 to 23 in real speed tests with the Motorola SB6120 by itself. The modem was easy to set up and has been working great for four days now. I am very happy with this purchase.
Future Proof! June 12, 2009 Electronics Geek 18 out of 20 found this review helpful
I bought this modem to replace the ever popular Linksys WRT54 modem I've had for 6 years. I bought a new modem because the Linksys was only DOCSIS 1.1 capable. I am with Comcast, and though my area is still only using DOCSIS 2.0, I figured I would go ahead and get this modem looking to the future upgrade to 3.0. The installation of this modem was very simple, and I simplty had to give my ISP the customer serial and MAC numbers for correct provisioning. My areas fastest tier is 16/2, but I consistantly get 20/6 out of this modem. I would definitely recommend purchasing this modem if you are in a DOCSIS 3.0 area, and especially if you are currently on 2.0.
